A long walk to water-section 1

What do we learn about Salva’s life and culture from the first chapter? Is it anything like your own?
salva is from Sudan his tribe, the dinka, have v shaped marks on their foreheads this indicates the are men. he has to learn Arabic the government wanted them to be Islam he can go to school when he is ten. before that he had to tend to the cows. he has 3 brothers and 2 sisters. the dinka tribe has an enemy newa tribe. girls can not go to school. we get water out of a tap instead of a water hole
What three questions occupy Salva’s thoughts? Predict the answers to those questions. What might be going through your mind under the same circumstances? when will i see my family again? where am i going ? where is my family? i would be very worried and run away
Describe and explain Nya’s journey everyday. How would you feel if you had such an essential responsibility like her? i would feel very pressured she would walk for ages

How do different tribes tell themselves apart from each other? What are some ways you tell yourself apart from students of other cultures?  the dinka tribe had a different language different clothing
